Surface Finishes

Surface finishing of metals takes a variety of forms.
Produce a piece of detailed work that explains the following;

Painting
Electroplating
Galvanising (zinc)
Plastic coating
Powder coating

Your explanation needs to cover what these processes involve from surface preparation to the finished product.  You must also explain which metals are suitable for which processes and which process you would choose for your can-crusher.

Welding

Produce a research sheet to describe the different forms of welding that can be done.
Ideally you should begin with describing all forms of welding;
GTAW (or TIG)
GMAW (or MIG)
ARC
Gas
Spot

Describe how each works, produce a cartoon strip of a guide, to help.

Next, referring to your materials research, describe which welding system is best suited for the material you have chosen for your can crusher. For what reasons have you selected this welding system?

Steel Gauge sizes?

Produce a page of A4 that explains;

Thickness (mm)
SWG
AWG

and how these are useful when designing your can crusher.
Suggest an appropriate gauge of steel you could use.

Can crusher experiment

Write up the can crusher experiment we did in the classroom.
Explain everything we did with reasons why, then state exactly what you learned about the crusher. How much force does it take to crush a can?
